Meet The Team

Jon Foster

Jon Foster is a U.S. Army veteran and community-driven leader dedicated to empowering those who served. He co-founded the Veteran Entrepreneur Tribe of Sacramento because he believes veterans deserve more than appreciation — they deserve opportunity, connection, and support as they build their next chapter. After navigating his own transition from the military, he saw firsthand the power of mentorship, community, and entrepreneurship in shaping a meaningful future. As Vice President of VETS, Jonathan leads the organization’s growth, programs, and partnerships to ensure veterans have the tools, network, and encouragement they need to thrive. He believes veterans possess the grit, creativity, and leadership to transform any community they join — and VETS exists to help unlock that potential.

Keith Ward

Keith is from a Military family. His Father served in the Army as a tank mechanic in the 60's and passed away on Christmas 2013. Keith has been in the software industry for 30 years (Intel, IBM, consulting, and business owner) and has founded an AI Automation startup. He has used this experience and knowledge to teach, empower, and lead local Sacramento veterans since 2013. Keith ran the Sacramento Chapter of Team Red, White, and Blue for 3 years, during which he was able to gain an even larger appreciation and respect for our Veteran Community and still supports this community to this day.

Tamare Fleury

Tamare is from Hispaniola, an island in the Caribbean that is part of the Greater Antilles. She grew up in Miami Florida and enlisted in the military while I was still in high school. She is a Combat Veteran, she served in the US Army for 12 years, as a Court Reporter for the JAG, and was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. She owns TAF Insurance Agency as a licensed Health Insurance Broker, AKA Healthcare Advocate: providing professional and ethical overview of all aspects of retirement, health insurance, Medicare supplement, Medicare advantage, Dental, Hearing, Vision, and Travel Insurance. Helping seniors in the retirement market, understand their current coverages and providing knowledge of programs available that they may not be unaware of.

Beside all this professionalism stuff, she likes to explore her culinary abilities when it comes to food. She loves creating healthy alternatives to popular dishes, working out, doing crossfit, obstacle courses, bootcamp, jump roping, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, etc. Also she enjoys going on day-long/weekend hiking trips to explore the wonders of California.

Tim Swaney

Tim is a Navy veteran who served for nearly a decade, deploying twice in dangerous environments. His military experience shaped his leadership, adaptability, and mission-focused approach. When he transitioned in 2019, he realized the sense of purpose and camaraderie he had in the military was missing. Since then, Tim has founded and exited multiple ventures, including a real estate investment company and a cybersecurity firm that he continues to operate, helping veterans build careers in tech. Recognizing the need for a stronger veteran business network, thus VETS was born, a community where veterans and allies connect, share experiences, and support one another in business and beyond.

Luisa Varela

Luisa is a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving with dedication to the mission of protecting our nation. During her time in service Luisa, learned the true meaning of sacrifice, resilience, and the power of standing strong for something greater than oneself.

Carrying those values forward, beyond the uniform, Luisa is dedicated to uplifting others, building strong communities, and living with purpose. As the Director of Operations for a private wealth firm Luisa leads her team with the core value that “Every step of the journey reflects a commitment to leadership, integrity, and leaving a lasting impact.”
